sandy. there's no question that happened. there's no question that the hug if you will, with governor christie played to what people wanted to see. i'm looking at the iowa poll that was done over the weekend. they asked the question "who's the stronger leader?" in iowa romney had a slight advantage, now it's obama 50% to 42%. i agree with what john said earlier. iowa and nevada have been put away. i don't think new hampshire and wisconsin have. but i think that's reflect in that poll. the second that's occurred is every single poll i've seen shows more optimism about the economy than there was a month ago. not people aren't off the charts mind you, but a third of the people think the economy is in good shape. another 20% think it's getting in better shape and those are better numbers than the summer. >> rose: let me ask about florida, john harris, and pennsylvania. >> it looks like florida is most likely in romney's camp. not certain. it seems to me that if obama wins florida he's going to win a bunch of other states and we'l

four days after hurricane sandy devastated this community. we are standing next to what was the boardwalk that used to stretch along the beach. the boardwalk now takes up much of the street. you can see it on top of cars that were part here. residents tell us about 5 feet of water poured down the street on monday. today, you see debris in giant piles in front of almost every house. let's go into one apartment that was completely destroyed on monday during the storm. >> i am 51 years old. monday night, i was sitting at the computer. i felt some water at my feet, i went to the back room to get my mop. the bedroom door was closed but the broom and fill with water. i opened the door and the water hit me. i opened up the store and the backyard had filled up with 3 feet of water, and that came in, so i was caught in from the front and back. >> what were your thoughts entering your apartment for the first time after the storm? >> my first thought was, am i going to be able to start over? it is a little difficult when you are 50-something years old.

and 72 hours since super storm sandy barreled head-long into the jersey shore. since then very serious stuff. whole neighborhoods like breezy point, queens, have been burned to the ground. houses have tumbled into the ocean. 87 people have died. seven million have lost power. and there are estimates that the storm could cost $50 billion. whole stretches of new york subway system are paralyzed. and that's forced thousands of commuters into their cars and in search of fuel. unfortunately, the majority of gas stations in new jersey are shut down and about 75% of them because they have no gas no power or they're out of both. new york senator chuck schumer assured frustrated citizens the gas crisis should end shortly but tensions still ran high. this is one scene outside of one of the few open stations in brooklyn.
